The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Peter Light Koomson, who was rejected by the assembly members through votes had to beg them to forgive his sins and vote for him in the second round of voting to confirm him as MCE. Peter Light Koomson had been rejected by his assembly members including government appointees and NDC constituency executives, who accused him of gross disrespect to assembly members and failure to live up to his social contract with the people. Following his rejection in the first round of voting, the government unceremoniously changed eight appointed members of the assembly to pave the way for the MCE to easily sail through. In spite of that scheme to help him, Peter Light Koomson felt the need to make a personal appeal for the people to forgive his sins and vote for him. He said: “please, please…whatever has happened please forgive me…if I have wronged anyone please forgive me…I plead for forgiveness…look at me standing here…I am on my knees asking you to forgive me for everything that has happened in the past…I have assured every Assembly member that whatever their issues are I will attend to them…please and please again.” But upon all the pleadings he failed to get the required two-thirds of the votes to be confirmed and yet the leadership of the assembly bent the rules and confirmed him, which has triggered a court action by 23 elected members of the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Municipal Assembly. Peter Light Koomson was not the only presidential nominee who was rejected in the Central Region and government had to intervene by changing some assembly members to pave the way for the nominee to sail through. At Assin North, Alex Antwi Boasiako was rejected and government changed 14 Assembly members before he was confirmed; in Assin South Sabina Appiah-Kubi was rejected twice and at Ekumfi, Ibrahim Kwaku Dawson was also rejected in the first round of voting but has been confirmed today with 35 'Yes' votes to two 'No' votes.
