Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has challenged followers of the party to rededicate themselves to unity and work towards bringing the party back to power. He told a large, enthusiastic rally of the party at Abeka in Accra that hopefully, God will listen to the prayers of the party and return it to power. Sunday’s rally was organized by the leadership of the party to thank its followers and sympathizers for their support and votes in the 2008 Election. Several of the ‘Thanksgiving’ rallies had been held across the country. Nana and the party leaders have already been to Kumasi, Wa, Bolgatanga, Tamale and Nkwanta in the Volta Region and a final one is also scheduled for the Eastern Region. According to Nana Addo, his objective on the tours had been to express his appreciation and encourage party followers not to lose hope in the face of the party’s narrow defeat in the elections. However, he was rather encouraged by the enthusiasm of the party supporters, as everywhere he went, the people cheered and gave him hope for Election 2012. Nana Addo said wherever he went, the people told him; “Nana, no shaking, we’re going forward, we’re still moving forward,” re-echoing the NPP’s campaign mantra for Election 2008. He said the party’s acceptance of the verdict of the December 2008 elections was ample proof that the NPP remained committed to democratic governance, and told the frenzied supporters to remain steadfast. Nana Addo said name-calling and accusations of misappropriation of funds against party leaders and members should cease forthwith, as a house divided against itself sahll not stand, insisting that it is only in unity that the party can move forward. Several other party leaders who also addressed the rally, including Sheik I.C. Quaye, immediate past Greater Accra Regional Minister, reiterated the party’s hopes of winning the 2012 election in order to return to power. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, NPP campaign chairman for 2008, said the party's objectives are bigger than those of any individual and therefore cannot subdued, it shall succeed. Story by Isaac Yeboah
