An alleged armed robber, who went to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital with gun shot wounds for treatment, has been nabbed and put before an Accra High Court for conspiracy and attempted robbery. Kadiri Ibrahim told the hospital authorities that he was shot by a certain whitemen at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area but did not report the incident to the Police. However, the hospital authorities, who suspected him to be a criminal, reported him to the Police and he was arrested while on admission. Ibrahim, who was without legal representation, has pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mr Justice Charles Quist remanded him in Police custody to re-appear on May 6 for hearing. His accomplices, Kevin Nii Otu aka Notorious and Martin Koranteng Agyiri aka Brother, who sustained guns shot wounds during a battle with the Police, have passed away. Principal State Attorney, Mr Rexford Wiredu told the court that on September 14, 2010, at about 0310 hours, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command received information that some armed robbers had planned to rob a Forex Bureau Manager at his residence in Dansoman, Accra. Prosecution said on the same day, the Police laid ambush and at about 0820 hours, Ibrahim and his accomplices, now deceased, armed themselves with cutlasses and guns and proceeded to the Manager’s house in a Nissan Amera taxi cab with registration number GR 6150-10. On reaching the premises, the prosecution said Ibrahim and his accomplices scaled the wall and entered the house and began firing. “The Police returned fire and in the process, Kevin Nii Otu and Agyiri escaped. On the same day, Agyiri was arrested at about 1100 hours at Accra Newtown with wounds around his lower abdomen,” Mr Wiredu said. According to Mr Wiredu, Agyiri died while he was being sent to the hospital and on September 15, 2010, Ibrahim went to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital with gun shot wounds for treatment. The prosecution said Ibrahim told the doctors that he was shot by a certain Whiteman at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area but he did not report the incident to the Police. Mr Wiredu said the hospital authorities suspected him to be a criminal and therefore informed the Police, and on September 16, 2010, the Police nabbed him while on admission. The prosecution said, Ibrahim in his investigation statement admitted taking part in the attempted robbery at Dansoman and mentioned the deceased as his accomplices. Source: GNA
