The third accused in the high-profile Ambulance trial, Richard Jakpa, remains unfazed by Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame's plan to appeal the Court of Appeal’s judgment that acquitted Minority Leader Dr Cassel Ato Forson and himself.
The Attorney-General has announced intentions to take the ruling to the Supreme Court.
Speaking to journalists in Accra, Jakpa expressed his readiness to face Godfred Yeboah Dame in any court. "I'm more than prepared, always ready. If the Attorney-General wants to go to the Supreme Court to appeal the ruling, I will meet him there. Even if he wants a review, I will meet him there. Wherever he wants to go, I don't have an issue at all."
Jakpa also stated, "I'm ready for this government. My enemies and detractors have been put to shame; I have been vindicated."
The Court of Appeal recently overturned the trial court’s order for Dr Forson to open his defence in the ongoing ambulance case.
This followed a High Court decision on June 6 dismissing Dr Forson's application for mistrial and an inquiry into the Attorney General’s conduct.
Dr. Forson had filed a supplementary affidavit on June 3, citing a leaked tape in which the Attorney-General allegedly attempted to coach Jakpa to implicate him in the trial.
Dr Forson's legal team argued that the Attorney-General’s actions warranted a mistrial and called for the prosecution to be declared invalid.
The Minority Leader warned that failing to order a mistrial in such circumstances could severely undermine public confidence in the judicial process.
The Court of Appeal upheld Dr Forson's appeal with a 2:1 majority decision, and businessman Richard Jakpa has also been acquitted.
