Kwesi Amoafo-Yeboah, an independent presidential candidate for the 2008 Elections, is contending that the spate of development over the last 16 years under the governance of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress clearly shows that the two have nothing new to offer Ghanaians. He was speaking in an exclusive interview with Myjoyonline.com and said it would be a “waste” to cast your vote for the two leading political parties whom he described as parties interested in witch-hunting each other instead of tackling the problems confronting the nation. “These two political parties, who have both had eight years each, are always at each others throat and fighting among themselves instead of fighting the problems that they all face at the same time.” Amoafo-Yeboah, the 55-year-old engineer, although conceded that the two parties have some brilliant individuals, he said they failed to look beyond the confines of their parties to tap the experience of others. He said as an independent candidate, he is prepared to reach out to members of all political parties in Ghana with the hope of forming a “unity government”. “So if you elect an independent person like Kwesi Amoafo-Yeboah, he will come in as the president of the nation and gather all the people from all the political parties including the CPP, the PNC, the DFP and the RPD. “There are good people in all those political parties, get them all together as Ghanaians and we will form a government of national unity and our efforts instead of going at each other, we will go on the problem we face at the same time.” He said successive governments have failed to concentrate on improving the lives of Ghanaians; and among the eight persons vying for the presidency, “I believe that I represent the most practical way to get us out of our servitude”. Amoafo-Yeboah has therefore appealed to the electorate to go out in their numbers on December 7 to vote massively for him. He promised to restructure the educational sector to ensure that it is raised to a level capable of churning out productive personnel for the industrial sector. He admonished Ghanaians to buy into his idea that “if I help you, I help myself”, to forge brotherly love among themselves so that together they can help bring development into the country. As a president, he promised to engage the nation in a weekly address to enable Ghanaians to keep abreast with the state of affairs in the country. He said under his leadership, he would not dictate to the nation; but as part of his all-inclusive government, all projects would be executed based on consensus building. He pledged to continue with good policies initiated by the present administration, specifically the National Health Insurance Scheme. The scheme would be extended to cover other catastrophic diseases and also respect agreement between government and health practitioners, he assured. He proposed to establish what he termed as “abundant society” to ensure that there is equal development across the nation. As a successful entrepreneur, Amoafo-Yeboah said under his tenure, Ghanaians would experience unprecedented job creation, adding that he has answers to the unemployment problems of Ghana.
