Mr Andy Appiah-Kubi, a 50-year-old Deputy Director of the Ghana Freezone Board, has picked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) nomination form to contest the Asante Akim North Constituency seat in the forthcoming elections.
Following the opening of nomination by the party on March 1, Mr. Appiah-Kubi has become the second person to declare his intention to contest the seat after Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), who has also picked his form.
Mr Appiah-Kubi, who declared his intentions amidst fanfare, said his decision to contest the seat was his quest to champion the cause of the constituents and urged members of the party to rally behind him.
He said the time had come for a change in the constituency to ensure accelerated development, adding that he was the right man to spearhead an effective campaign to achieve the developmental goals of the people.
Mr Appiah-Kubi, who was one-time National Youth Organiser of the party between 1999 and 2000, indicated that he would uphold the integrity and vision of the party and that he would pay particular attention to the unity among the rank and file of the party at the constituency level, when given the nod.
He implored the delegates to elect the best candidate among the contestants without fear or favour, saying the party’s interest must be placed above all personal motives.
Mr Agemang Duku, Constituency Secretary urged the contestants to embark on clean campaign devoid of insults.
He further entreated them to educate their followers not to make derogatory remarks about the contestants.Source: GNA
