Stephen Appiah will start Ghana’s international friendly against Zambia from the bench after Milovan Rajevac picked his side for Wednesday evening’s friendly in London.
The former Fernabahce player, now club-hunting, did not make the Serbian’s starting XI, despite a host of players missing.
Rajevac had plenty of thinking to do before picking his side, especially with so many key players missing.
Francis Dickoh will play his first game for Ghana since that disastrous 5-1 friendly loss to Saudi Arabia alongside Eric Addo in central defence. Samuel Inkoom will be deployed on the right side of Ghana’s midfield in front of regular right-back John Paintsil, while Harrison Afful keeps his slot at left back.
Michael Essien and Anthony Annan will be the midfield anchor, while striking duties will be left to Junior Agogo, who will be making his first start for Ghana since the international friendly against Lesotho in a World Cup qualifier a year ago.
Starting XI: George Owu, John Paintsil, Harrison Afful, Eric Addo, Francis Dickoh, Anthony Annan, Michael Essien, Samuel Inkoom, Haminu Dramani, Sulley Muntari, Junior Agogo. Subs: Gladson Awako, David Telfer, Chris Dickson, Kwame Quansah, Stephen Appiah, William Amamoo.
