The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rubbished claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the ruling party could be conniving with the Electoral Commission (EC) to rig the 2008 elections.
At a press conference at the International Press Centre where the NDC had held its press briefing minutes earlier, the campaign director of the Akufo-Addo campaign team, Dr Konadu Apraku, described the allegations as “a bunch of total untruths.”
He noted that the ruling party had clean hands and that a victory in the elections would only be as a result of the NPP’s hard work.
Dr Apraku chided the NDC for what he said was the divisive approach the opposition party was adopting in dealing with the issues.
Responding to allegations that the NPP had distributed campaign materials in some parts of the Volta Region on Saturday 6 December, the eve of election day, Dr Apraku said the NPP had never pursued such an agenda.
He said the NPP had ended its campaign programme on Friday, the EC’s official day for the closure of campaigning by all parties.
Dr Apraku called on the EC to disregard the claims by the opposition, adding that Ghanaians expected peaceful polls and a successful transition of governments.
The press conference was also attended by party bigwigs, including campaign chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey.
