One armed robber has been killed and five others arrested in a special operation by the Jomoro Police in the Western region.It was in response to recent highway attacks on passengers who ply the Takoradi-Elubo highway especially at night.Jomoro District Police Commander, Superintendent John Dzineku told Joy News personnel were deployed to patrol the highway after a pregnant woman was shot dead when the robbers attacked passengers last week.Superintendent Dzineku said the suspected robbers who were occupying a Nissan Primera taxi cab with registration number GW 8062-12, mounted a blockade along that stretch of the road and stopped the officers who were in a civilian vehicle with the intention of robbing them.He said while his men were approaching the illegal barrier, the suspects who initially took them to be civilians, fled into the nearby bush after realizing that they were police officers.The officers chased them in the bush, resulting in the death one while the rest were apprehended.A search conducted on them yielded a short gun, two locally manufactured pistols as well as other ammunitions concealed in the booth of the vehicle.Their identities are yet to be disclosed.
