The Police has appealed to residents of the Asante-Mampong area, to volunteer information to the Police to enable them to check crime in the area, especially the proliferation of small arms.
They expressed worry about increase in small arms and defilement cases in Ejura-Sekyedumase District and Asante-Mampong Municipality.
These were contained in a statement signed by Chief Superintendent Edward Oduro-Kwateng, Asante-Mampong Divisional Police Commander.
It appealed to people in possession of illegal firearms to surrender them to the Police and warned that offenders would be brought to justice.
The statement said that the court had convicted some people arrested for possessing locally manufactured pistols and cited Kwame Kennedy, 24, and Simon Bukari, 23.
It called on the public to assist the Police to arrest Yaw Gyekye, 63, who allegedly defiled a 10-year old girl and was on admission at the Mampong Government Hospital.
