President John Mahama has appointed General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketiah as head of the party’s 2016 campaign.
The 15 member team was selected in consultation with the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
This new team is about blending the experience of the old guard with the freshness of youth.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia who will chair the 15 member campaign team represents a safe pair of hands, tried and tested.
The party’s National Organizer, Kofi Adams, on the other hand, will come as a surprise choice to many.
He has been appointed by the president as his campaign coordinator. That can be seen as a massive elevation for a man who was once exiled from the party for alleged disloyalty.
A major surprise of it all, however, is the choice of Deputy Transport Minister, Joyce Bawa Mogtari as the Campaign Spokesperson.
She brings a steady hand of calmness and tenderness to the campaign.
If elections are about winning hearts and minds then Madam Mogtari is a perfect fit. She is young and exudes charm.
This, will no doubt give the campaign a certain feel good factor.
Her soft communications power will blend effectively with the tough aggressive posture from Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu known for his strong defense of government.
Madam Sylvia Osei, who was also once on the campaign team for the late president Prof. John Evans Atta Mills will also be the party’s second Deputy Campaign spokesperson.
Other members include former Ghana Ambassador to the United States of America, Daniel Ohene Agyekum; Ablekuma Central MP Theophilus Tetteh Chaie and Kofi Totobi Quakye.
A statement signed by party chairman Kofi Portuphy noted the President’s expression of confidence in the ability of the members of the team. With the team now set, the real work begins.
