As part of efforts to deepen the decentralization process as well as good governance, government has made available fifty-five motorbikes to aid assembly members in the Asuogyaman district of the Eastern region carry through their duties.
The motorbikes are to help Assembly members visit their local communities regularly to better understand the plight of the people at the grassroots level as well as enhance the socio-economic development of the district.
Other items presented included sowing machines, bicycles, tricycles and hairdryers to some physically challenged persons in the community.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asuogyaman, Johnson Ehiakpor urged assembly members to use the motorbikes for official duties only adding that government will continue to adequately support the district to develop.
The Divisional Officer of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) Inspector Attaban Quashie also advised assembly members to acquire licenses which will permit them to ride their motorbikes and ensure that they always wear helmets when riding.
The Presiding Member for the Asuogyaman district, Seth Okine asked members to avoid drinking alcohol whiles riding.
The presentation ceremony was held at Atimpoku in the Asuogyaman district of the Eastern region.
