Ghanaian boxing legend Azumah Nelson has advised Ghanaian boxer Osumanu Adama to do nothing short of a knockout if he wants to become Ghana’s next world champion his upcoming world title fight. Adama who is a product of the Fit Square Gym in Accra is scheduled to challenge the IBF middleweight champion, Daniel Geale in his homeland Tasmania, Australia on March 7 ,2012.According to the Azumah, Adama can only dominate the bout if he ignores hostile chants by Daniel Geale’s home fans. "He shouldn’t worry about the fans and their shouting. There will be times when he will land a punch on Geale and the home fans will jeer but he shouldn’t let it discourage him" Azumah exclusively told Joy Sports.
Before earning this opportunity, Adama defeated highly-rated former world champion, Roman Karmazin via a ninth round knockout in a final eliminator in the US last October. He had also previously defeated Marcus Upshaw with a fourth round knockout which improved his rankings and gave him two smaller titles. If he is able to win this big bout, Osumanu Adama will become Ghana’s ninth world champion after Floyd Robertson, D.K. Poison, Azumah Nelson, Nana Yaw Konadu, Alfred Kotey, Ike Quartey, Joseph Agbeko and Joshua Clottey. Adama has recorded 20 wins and two losses since his professional career began in 2001. A defeat in 2009 is Geale’s only dent his otherwise clean record of 26 wins while. Geale won the IBF title after recording a split decision over Sebastian Sylvester in May last year in Germany and has since defended it successfully once against Nigerian-born Eromosele Albert.Adama, who now fights out of Florida has been training intensively for this big bout and has promised to bring Ghanaians another world title. Azumah Nelson has been reminiscing on the events of two decades ago when he defeated Australian Jeff Fenech before his home fans to retain the WBC super featherweight title. "Osumanu Adama is a good boxer so he should have a big heart and knock his opponent out. In Australia you have to record a knockout to win. If he is unable to do that it will be difficult to win the title" Azumah told Joy Sports.
