A 22- year-old baker, Dora Afenyo, from Gbefi in the Volta Region, has been arrested by the Hohoe Police for allegedly attempting to transport 45 parcels of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in three suitcases. Her accomplice, Euston Ntsini, 23, from Alavanyo, a former student of Power College at Ho, is on the run.The two flagged down a newspaper circulation vehicle of the New Times Corporation, for a lift from Ve-Golokuati about 50 metres from the police barrier en route to Accra. The driver of the vehicle, Mr. Daniel Ansah, being suspicious, asked of the contents of the bags and was told that they contained funeral clothes meant for distribution. But on reaching the barrier, Mr. Ansah who was still suspicious of them handed the two to the police. Lo and behold, when the bags were opened, no cloths were found but large parcels of dried leaves. The man bolted but the woman and the bags were taken to the Hohoe police station for further investigations.DSP Wilson Nkrumah Kudze, Hohoe Municipal Police Commander, said the police have mounted a search for the Ntsini while the parcels would be sent to the Ghana Standard Board for forensic examination.Source: Ghanaian Times/Ghana
