Controversial founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church Bishop Daniel Obinim has been granted bail.

The Bishop has been detained at the Nima Police Station since Tuesday after he was transferred from the Tema Police Command to the CID Headquarters in Accra. 

He was being held for assaulting two church members before his congregants as well as facing defrauding by false pretense charges in a Gh¢11.6 million case. 

There was heavy security presence at the court premises awaiting the arrival of Bishop Obinim, following huge crowd disturbances at the Police CID Headquarters Wednesday.

However, in a sharp turn of events, there was a no-show at the Accra Circuit Court Thursday, following which scores of police detailing at the premises were dispersed.

Having been held in police custody for two nights following his arrest on Tuesday at the Tema Police Command, Bishop Obinim was expected to be brought before the Accra Circuit Court Thursday by the police.

According to the police, the embattled preacher had been undergoing questioning and investigations at the police CID Headquarters following a complaint lodged with the police regarding a fraud case.

Sympathizers of the ‘man-of-God’ thronged the Nima police station and the police CID Headquarters to solidarize with their leader. The situation got out of control at some point forcing the police to use water cannons to disperse the crowd.

In anticipation of another mass up at the court, a huge contingent of police personnel were dispatched to provide security in and around the court premises.

The court registry confirmed to Joy News that the police had registered the case and were expecting the preacher to be brought to court.

However, in a turn of events, ACP Addo Danquah assembled and dismissed the police contingent at the court premises signaling the unlikelihood of the appearance of Bishop Obinim.

"I have just been given instructions to disperse my men from here to go back to their various offices," he told the press.

Asked whether the decision was as a result of a possible bail granted the man-of-God, ACP Danquah said, “I cannot confirm that, I have not been briefed to that effect. I was only asked to disperse and dismiss my contingent here and that’s what I have just done,” she added.

The preacher has since been granted bail with two sureties for each of the offenses for which he was arrested. It is, however, unclear what the bail terms are.
