The British High Commission wishes all Scottish nationals in Ghana a very happy St Andrews Day. Ghana-Scotland relationship dates far back and is evident through their contributions in various sectors in Ghana. For instance through the Caledonian Society of Ghana, Scottish nationals have been supporting various charities since 1920 when the Society was established in Ghana. The Saint Andrews ball has been one of the Caledonian Society of Ghana’s major annual highlights where they raise funds to support various charities. Over the years several key personalities including Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah have attended the ball. This year they raised GHC 20,000 in cash and a donation of three patient monitors valued at GHC 30,000 from MODEC. The money and equipment will be going to Chance for Children, an NGO committed to the well being of street children in Ghana and the Post Operation Recovery Room at the Burns and Reconstructive Centre of the Korle Bu teaching hospital. Ghana and Scotland have also been collaborating in the oil and gas and related services sector. In the last two years alone, 23 Scottish oil & gas companies have visited Ghana with some of them already established locally. They include Weir Minerals, MSIS, Intervention Rentals, Dominion, Enermech and Global Energy. Last week saw a group of nine Scottish oil and gas companies on an exploratory mission to Ghana to examine the opportunities available. The companies came with a range of objectives including looking for local representatives, qualified distributors, agents, partners and clients. It also coincided with the visit of the Chief Executive for the Scottish Enterprise, Dr Lena Wilson showcased the Scottish industry to senior officials in the public and private sector. With over 40 years’ experience in the oil & gas sector, Scotland remains Europe’s second largest producer of offshore natural gas. As such, it boasts of a very strong oil & gas supply chain, with almost 2000 Scottish service & supply companies active in over 100 countries throughout the world. There are several students including Chevening Scholars studying at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. The British High Commission also wishes all Ghanaians in Scotland a happy St. Andrews Day. St. Andrew's Day is the feast day of Saint Andrew and is celebrated on November 30 in Scotland. Saint Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, and St. Andrew's Day is Scotland's official national day.
