Branches of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of Sunyani Polytechnic and other tertiary institutions in Brong-Ahafo, have accused NDC regional executives of not supporting activities of the students.
They raised the issue at a meeting organized by the group recently, attended by Mr. Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, NDC National Youth Organiser and regional and national executives of the party, in Sunyani.
The group said if the situation persists it could undermine the party’s chances of winning more votes in the region, and accused the NDC regional leadership of failing to attend TEIN meetings.
Mr. Samuel Aliah, President of Sunyani Polytechnic TEIN, said the regional executives had failed to support the group financially and stressed: “The regional executives don’t encourage or motivate us. Every semester we hold three meetings and these people never attend such meetings, unless it is a big programme with the patronage of the national executives.
He said: “We are supposed to coordinate with the chairman of Sunyani East Constituency but the regional organizer doesn’t link us to this man. He doesn’t also visit us to see how we are faring”.
Attempts by the Ghana News Agency to contact the regional organizer for his comments on the issue proved futile.
Mr. Hlodze, National Youth Organiser of the party called on the youth in the party to take active interest in politics so that they could be well-positioned to effect changes in society.
He said politics provided the most credible platform and opportunity for the youth to discuss issues affecting them, apart from preparing them for political career.
