Over hundred students from various disciplines of engineering are expected to receive employment this year.

The projections came at an annual career fair which assembles companies within the engineering industry at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

The fair also offer opportunities for students to justify their employment even before completion.

The 2016 edition saw industries promising 50 students who attended the fair with employment opportunities.

Participants are offered first hand information of what their expectations are as far as their future employers are concern.

It is collaboration between the Engineering College of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the engineering industry.

Eighteen companies took part in the career fair.

“They are employed into the national service track and then they undertake one year training and after which they are retained”, says Provost of College of Engineering, Professor Mark Adom Asamoah.

The Engineering College alone graduates an average of a thousand students a year in the face of high unemployment in the country.

Prof. Adom Asamoah is optimistic the fair contributes to reducing high graduate unemployment incidence.

“From the discussions we have with them [businesses], we are looking up to employing about 100 of them. Even though the graduating numbers is that many but school authorities are always grateful that these companies come in every year and employ some of them. We know that they have limited capacities but they are doing their best”, he said.

Head of Visibility at the College, Dr. Jerry John Kponyo observes the faculty and college is able to deepen its relationship with industry.
