The Centre for Democratic Development is predicting a ferociously close contest between the ruling NDC and the Opposition NPP in this year’s general elections.
The CDD says the 2012 elections will be one of the most hotly contested poll ever because the next presidential tenure will see the full maturation of Ghana’s oil resources.
CDD’s Executive Director, Professor Gyimah Boadi says the contest is likely to push Ghana to the brink and will therefore require utmost vigilance from all stakeholders across board.
He told Joy News’ Evans Mensah “the stakes of power are very high and the competition for power is always going to be high.”
He said the state is getting richer, wealthier and more resourceful.
“Not only is oil coming in, the next government is going to preside over the window of time within which Ghana’s oil and gas resources will peak.
“So when you have that, you basically have a situation cut for the most ferocious competition for power,’ he said.
