The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reintroduced the Super Cup formerly called the 'Champion of Champions' for the 2010/2011 season after almost a decade off the scene.
The one-off match usually between the winner of the Premier League and the FA Cup, to officially draw the curtains on a particular season has been defunct since 2000 due to reasons including inadequate funding.
Welbeck Abra Appiah, Chairman of the Premier League Board announced at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday the return of the Super Cup as amongst the innovations of the 2010/2011 season including the reserve league and the FA Cup.
Even though unsure of the timing, the PLB boss said the Super Cup will take place immediately after the coronation match of the 2010/2011 season to herald in the new season.
However, the re-introduction of the FA Cup serves the basis for the Super Cup as lack of sponsorship ensured the FA Cup remained quiescent since 2001.
Also, the dominance of Hearts of Oak in the early 2000's made the Super Cup irrelevant after successes in the Premier League and the FA Cup.
