The continuous refusal of trained teachers to accept posting to the Kwahu Afram Plains North District is seriously affecting academic performance in the area. 

As a result, a number of pupil teachers were for some years engaged to augment the efforts of the few committed and selfless professional teachers in the district. Consequently, the quality of education in the area has not been the best.

The Chief of Donkorkrom No. 1, Nana Akuamoah Boateng Tanor revealed this to the Eastern Regional Minister, Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere when he called on him at his palace as part of his two –day working visit to the district.

He suggested that to help bring and retain teachers in the District, government should as early as possible convert one of the Senior High Schools in the District into a teacher training college to produce quality teachers the schools.

According to him, by so doing, the literacy level in the district would improve as many youth would enroll due to proximity.

Nana Tanor was grateful to Former President Jerry John Rawlings' government for giving Afram Plains a facelift by connecting it to the national electricity grid.

He also commended government for the provision of telecommunication services and providing a motorable road network.

He said the people of Afram Plains are predominantly peasant farmers who cannot afford the high cost of farm inputs in recent times. He also expressed concern about the upsurge in illegal felling of trees and appealed for urgent government intervention.

On his part, the Regional Minister Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere said formal education creates jobs and open up  the society for vibrant economic activities.

He said he had no doubt in his mind that the second campus of the proposed Eastern University that would be cited at Donkorkrom would get people into classrooms, improve the economic status and attract professional teachers to the area.

The Minister assured the people that he will liaise with the Transport Minister and the Volta River Authority to get a pantoon on the Agordeke-Kpando River and reconstruct a landing site at Agordeke to better link up the district to the Volta Region.

He later inspected work on an on-going construction of GH¢305,945.00 ICT Centre and GH¢ 599.00 market stalls and stores at Donkorkrom and commended the contractors for a good work done.
