The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) has appointed Dr Joseph Danquah of the School of Management, University of Bradford, as an academic adviser.
In this role, Dr Danquah will provide strategic guidance on the Commission’s various initiatives, including student support systems, curriculum development, and policy evaluation.
The CSC, an executive non-departmental public body of the Commonwealth Secretariat sponsored by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, operates within the framework of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP).
It oversees the UK’s main government schemes led by international development objectives.
Since its establishment in 1960, the CSC has awarded scholarships to over 31,000 brilliant, underprivileged students across fifty-six countries.
These scholars have gone on to become enlightened citizens, contributing significantly to both local and global societies.
Following his appointment, Dr Danquah expressed his commitment to the Commission’s cause, reaffirming his dedication to supporting students in succeeding academically, socially, and economically.
“As someone passionate about education and mentorship, I am eager to support scholars in achieving their goals and making a meaningful impact in their communities,” he said.
Dr Danquah brings over a decade of experience in student mentorship and engagement. As an Assistant Professor of Human Capital Development, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship, he has led various leadership engagement programmes in both the UK and his home country, Ghana.
He recently led a group of enthusiastic master’s degree students from the University of Bradford to participate in the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development’s (CIPD) Annual Conference in Manchester.
He also successfully hosted a seminar aimed at fostering a positive relationship between the British Council and international students of Ghanaian origin. The seminar was attended by the British Council’s Country Director for Ghana, Nii Doodo Dodoo, who shared the Council’s vision of expanding educational opportunities across Africa.
With a distinguished academic background, Dr Danquah’s work focuses on bridging the gap between theory and practice. His expertise will support the CSC as it continues to inspire the next generation of leaders through sponsored education.
Dr Danquah earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Agricultural Technology, from the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala Campus, Ghana.
His dissertation was recognised for its high quality and impact, earning him the Sunkwa Mills Award in 2007. In 2011, he completed a Master of Science (MSc) degree at the University of Bradford, and in 2012, he enrolled in a PhD programme at the same university.
Since then, he has been engaged in academia, researching and teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, while serving on numerous academic boards.
The Commonwealth community, including both current and future scholars, eagerly anticipates the positive changes Dr Danquah’s leadership will bring. This new role comes with high expectations, and it is hoped that his enthusiasm will lead to tangible results that will positively influence the work of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.
Dr Danquah’s appointment as Academic Adviser is a significant step forward for the CSC. With his extensive expertise in mentorship, education, and human capital development, he is well-positioned to make a meaningful contribution to the Commission’s mission of transforming lives through education.
His innovative approach and commitment to fostering both academic and personal growth will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of Commonwealth leaders.
This appointment not only strengthens the CSC’s vision but also reinforces its dedication to empowering scholars who will shape a better future for their communities and the world.
