Standings on the Ghana Premier League are changing three whole days after the completion of a gripping competition as the football association clean up all outstanding issues. In a trend that will worry followers of the local game, the GFA is still tackling cases that are likely to affect the final placements in the League.
Sekondi Eleven Wise are the latest club to be affected after three points were deducted following their use of defender Zacharia Abdulai, who had played a League game against Sporting Mirren, despite having picked up three yellow, which automatically meant a one game suspension.
The deduction means that Wise will finish in eighth place on 40 points.
But the club got off free from another case in which AshantiGold said they had used Stephen Adu at a time when the player had picked up a suspension. The disciplinary committee claims they have had correspondence from GHALCA that the clubs had been made aware before their President’s Cup game that suspensions will be carried over to the League games.
AshantiGold say they will file an appeal against the judgment today because article 39 of the GFA regulations are clear that when a player picks up a red card in a game sanctioned by the football association, he is automatically suspended for the next League game.Source: Kickoff.com
