An Accra Fast Track High Court has thrown out the case in which a pressure group, Truth and Accountability Forum, was seeking to stop the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) from adjusting the prices of electricity and water. The court upheld the application from the PURC, for summary dismissal, even before the start of the trial. The group had asked the court to restrain the PURC from approving new rates because it had failed to publish guidelines on rate fixing. It also argued that consumers were not getting value for money. However, the High Court on Tuesday dismissed the case on the grounds that the group failed to do proper checks before dragging PURC to court.
