Managing Associate of Beyuo and Co., Iris Aggrey-Orleans has intimated that the non-adherence of Covid-19 protocols by Ghanaians is a result of the negligence of some Members of Parliament (MPs) amidst the deadly coronavirus.
Her comment comes on the back of MPs who tested positive for Covid-19 but failed to self-isolate for treatment.
71 persons, comprising of 15 MPs and 56 staff have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Also during the voter's registration exercise, the MP for Tema West, Kingsley Carlos Ahenkorah who had full knowledge that he had tested positive for Covid-19, went about visiting voter registration centres.
“They know the law, they passed it and they know the repercussions and yes their behaviours are worrying it may definitely be what is setting the tone for the ordinary Ghanaians not adhering to protocols and to isolate especially when you have tested positive. “
Speaking on The Law, Sunday, She noted that the behaviour and conduct of the legislatures are very worrying especially since they are the makers of the law.
In her view, she believes that it is very disappointing that these MPs do not practice what they preach.
“They are the ones who are passing these laws and expecting us, the ordinary Ghanaians to obey. It is very worrying if you pass these laws and you yourself are not obeying.”
Currently, Ghana has recorded 718 new cases with active Cases of 8,216. The death toll has risen to 533 however, Recoveries and Discharge cases stand at 67,087.
With the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, an Associate of T. Forson and Co., Susana Asabea Nyanpong has called for a stiff punishment on persons who test positive for Covid-19 but are walking in public.
She noted that by not isolating, the MPs are endangering the lives of others who have not contracted the disease, hence the surge of the virus in the country.
