Government has renewed the curfew imposed on three conflict areas in the Northern and Volta regions.

The areas include Nakpanduri and its environs, Bimbilla as well as the Alavanyo and Nkonya townships.

In a statement Interior Minister, Mark Woyongo indicated the curfew was renewed based on the advice of the Security Council of both regions.

The curfew in Bimbilla was first imposed last quarter of 2014 after clashes in the town following a chieftaincy dispute resulting in the death of the Bimbilla Na.

In the Volta region, tensions were heightened last June after residents in Nkonya reportedly fired shots into Alavanyo, prompting fears of further clashes which were eventually averted through the intervention of the chiefs.

The curfews which have been renewed once again is expected to help security forces deal with persons and groups thought to be fuelling the conflict.

To this effect, government has also placed a total ban on all persons in the conflict prone areas from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon.

The statement said any person found with arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.

It urged Chiefs, opinion leaders and the youth in these areas to exercise restraint and avoid violence, warning security agencies are firmly on the ground to deal with any miscreant.

The curfew period for Nakpanduri and its environments is from 10pm to 4am, and 6pm to 6am for Bimbilla, Alavanyo and Nkonya townships.
