Health officials in the Eastern Region are bemoaning the poor nature of the Suhum -Asamankese road saying it is posing a threat to the delivery of healthcare in the region.
Speaking to Joy News’ Kofi Siaw, District Health Director for Lower Akyem, Dr. Aziz Abdul Abdulai, said patients who are referred to other hospitals either die on the way or are brought in a very bad condition due to the deteriorated nature of the road.
“This nature of the road that we have now is making life very difficult. We have lost quite a number and some are sent in a very bad state because the roads have worsened their condition,” Dr. Abdulai admitted.
The Suhum-Asamankese highway which is a 22km stretch of road , lies between four municipal and district assemblies namely Akyem,Suhum, Lower West Akyem, Ayensuano and the East Akyem municipality is yet to be constructed after the late President Mills cut the sod for its construction in 2011.
Describing the poor nature of the roads in the region as “criminal” after inspection , the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Oforipanyin called on government to involve private investors in fixing the deplorable roads in the region if government is broke.
