The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs is to investigate the mode of disbursement of micro finance loans to rural women.
The ministry says it believes the proper procures and guidelines were not duly followed in the disbursement of the funds previously.
The micro finance scheme was introduced by the Kufuor administration to empower rural poor women.
The Minster of Women and Children’s Affairs, Akua Sena Dansua, told Joy News some women in the Eastern Region were yet to access to funds after they had been released six years ago.
She alleges women who were not supposed to benefit from the micro finance scheme benefited while those who badly needed the money rather did not get any.
That for her constituted a serious breach of the guidelines for disbursement of the funds.
She contends the lack of due diligence resulted in high default rate for the funds.
“If you don’t mobilize the right people recovering the loans will be difficult,” she stated.
