On the occasion of this year’s Doctors’ Day, the Enterprise Group PLC celebrates the dedication and passion of all doctors, particularly those in Africa and Ghana. Healthcare professionals are the backbone of our well-being, tirelessly working to save lives and provide expert care and guide toward healthier lifestyles.
Today, as we celebrate doctors, we call on all stakeholders to prioritize the needs of doctors and recognize and appreciate them for the critical role they play in our society. Now more than ever, there is a critical need to increase the number of doctors in our communities. According to data from the World Health Organization and other relevant bodies, Ghana’s doctor-to-patient ratio stands at 1:6,355, significantly below the ideal threshold. To achieve adequate coverage of primary healthcare interventions, at least 2.5 health workers (including physicians, nurses, and midwives) per 1,000 people are required. Strengthening our healthcare workforce is essential to improving accessibility and quality of care for all.
While this remains a major challenge, we are plagued with the migration of skilled and trained doctors to the advanced economies. This further impacts the delivery of healthcare in Ghana. We need immediate interventions, otherwise this gap will continue to widen, putting countless lives at risk.
Despite the enormous pressure, our doctors continue to make sacrifices and provide selfless services for our well-being. Their passion is what Enterprise Group PLC is recognizing today as doctors not only heal individuals but also strengthen our communities. We salute their dedication and commitment to building a healthier Ghana.
Enterprise Group PLC and its subsidiaries extend a heartfelt AYEKOO! Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed and we remain committed to supporting healthcare professionals in every way we can.
