Voting is underway at most polling stations in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency of the Greater Accra Region after an initial delay.
Many of the electorate had queued at polling centres starting as early as 8 pm Thursday with the intention of voting early when the process started Friday morning so that they could go about their days.
EC officials could not provide an explanation for the delay as presiding officers at many of the centres visited were at 7 am still waiting to receive voting materials from regional officers. The polls were opened half past 8 am at most of the centres.
Although there are six persons contesting the parliamentary seat in the area, many see the contest as a two-horse-race between National Democratic Party candidate Sophia Karen Akuaku and New Patriotic Party candidate Sarah Adwoa Safo.
The NPP currently holds the seat, but incumbent MP Prof. Michael Aaron Ocquaye, who is also the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, stepped aside after serving two 4-year terms.
The voting process has been calm and peaceful so far and there have been no hitches.
