The Chief Operating Officer of Unibank, Dr. Kwabena Duffour Jr. has been appointed the Chief Executive of the bank.
JOYBUSINESS understands he will act as boss of the institution pending Bank of Ghana’s approval.
He takes over from Felix Nyarko-Pong who has been the Chief Executive of the Bank since, June 2011.
His appointment follows the decision of Nyarko Pong not to extend this his contract which ended last week.
The necessary documents covering, the appointment of Dr. Duffour have been sent to the Central Bank for its approval.
Dr. Kwabena Duffour Jr. re-joined the bank in January 2012 as an Executive Director with direct responsibility over Finance and Human Resource of all the business units.
The new acting MD of Unibank holds a PhD in Finance, MSc in Banking and International Finance from the Cass Business School, City of London and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Southampton, UK.
Dr. Duffor Jr makes history as one of the youngest banking Chief Executives as he would be 35 in July this year.
Analysts say one of his major hurdles is how to deal with current recapitalisation challenges facing the bank.
Sources say he would also look at consolidating and entrenching the bank’s position as a tier one bank.
