Council of State Member for the Western Region and CEO of Win Energy, Dr Maxwell Boakye, has announced plans to construct a 50-bed Children’s Ward at Samartex Hospital in Samreboi.
He said the project fulfils a long-held wish of his late mother and is intended to improve paediatric healthcare delivery in the Western Region.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Dr Boakye noted that the new facility will provide a dedicated space for children and specialised care, while easing pressure on the hospital’s existing infrastructure and addressing gaps in child healthcare services.
“This project is very personal to me,” he said. “It represents a promise fulfilled in honour of my late mother’s passion for compassion and service to humanity.”
The announcement comes a year after the passing of Maame Agnes Appiah, whom he described as a woman devoted to community welfare and the well-being of children.
Dr Boakye said the Children’s Ward will serve as a lasting tribute to her legacy of care and selfless service.
Community members and health officials who attended the ceremony welcomed the initiative.
They expressed optimism that the facility will improve healthcare outcomes for children and families in Samreboi and surrounding communities.
When completed, the 50-bed ward is expected to expand Samartex Hospital's capacity and strengthen paediatric services in the Western Region.
