The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to begin the process of collating outstanding constituency results today, Sunday, January 5, following a series of High Court rulings on Saturday that compelled the Commission to finalize the results of the four constituencies.
The rulings by Justice Forson Agyapong of the Accra High Court, were in response to applications filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which sought to ensure the completion of the collation process in several constituencies in the Greater Accra Region and beyond.
The first of these rulings concerns the Tema Central constituency, where the court found that the EC had not collated results from all polling stations before declaring a winner.
Justice Agyapong emphasized that the declaration was made by someone other than the mandated returning officer, which violated electoral laws.
Similarly, in the Ablekuma North constituency, the court ruled that the EC had declared results from only 219 of the 281 polling stations, leaving 62 stations unaccounted for.
Justice Agyapong again found that the EC had failed to act despite repeated demands, and instructed the Commission to complete the collation from the remaining polling stations.
The court also ruled in favour of the NPP in the Okaikwei Central constituency, where 31 polling stations had not been collated.
Justice Agyapong ordered the EC to complete the collation of these outstanding results and incorporate them into the already reported figures.
Finally, the court addressed the situation in Techiman South, where 147 polling stations had yet to be collated.
The EC was once again found to have failed in its duty to complete the process, prompting the court to instruct the Commission to finish collating the results from these stations before declaring the final outcome of the parliamentary race.
With the ruling, the Electoral Commission is now expected to finalize the results and declare the winner in these constituencies, under the watchful eye of the IGP and the police to ensure order and security throughout the process.
