The Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan will announce results of the Sunday, December 7 elections at 2pm Wednesday, December 10.
The information relayed from the Electoral Commission to journalists at the Ghana International Press Centre where election results are posted for onward distribution to various media houses and the public, followed an earlier notice from the EC it was to announce time and venue for the declaration of the verdict.
With the exception of polling results from a couple of constituencies, nearly all results of the December 7 general elections have been declared by the Commission which has also urged the public to disregard any purported results that may be announced from any other quarters.
Meanwhile the National Elections Security Task Force says it has, in line with its post election operational arrangements announced measures it says are to help maintain peace, law and order in the country. A statement released by the Police and signed by the Director of Public Affairs, DCOP Kwesi Ofori announced the following measures;
- The police have created road blocks to conduct snap checks on some roads in the Accra metropolis.
- We have also intensified the joint police/military patrols to strengthen security in the aftermath of the elections to ensure safety of life, property and promotion of security.
- MTTU personnel will also be deployed in large numbers to assist in traffic management. Traffic through junctions of Barnes Road near the Calvary Methodist Church passing the front of the Adabraka Polyclinic, through the frontage of the offices of the Electoral Commission which opens up onto the Castle Road near the Ridge Roundabout known as “H Avenue”.
- Access to these roads will be granted to emergency vehicles, vehicles of the Electoral Commission, Security Services and stake holders.
- The police would want to emphasize that lawlessness and acts of vandalism will not be countenanced and that anybody found engaging in these acts will be arrested, investigated and prosecuted according to the laws of the land.
- Meanwhile we wish to remind the general public that the public order act (Act 491) which states that any group of persons who wish to organize any public event should inform the police five days before the day of the event, is still in force.
- We are therefore calling on the public to be calm and support the police to maintain peace, law and order.
- The National Security Task Force commends the public for their support so far in maintaining peace and order in the country.
- Motorists are however requested to take note and cooperate with the police in this connection. Any inconvenience caused by the multi-faceted police operations is deeply regretted.
