Legal practitioner Egbert Faibille Jnr. and the Accra-based Citi FM have lodged a formal complaint with the police regarding a case in which they were allegedly besieged by men believed to have been sponsored by Mr. Hassan Ayariga.
The Adabraka Police have confirmed this and say they may invite Ayariga, the presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), for questioning.
Ayariga’s supporters stormed Citi FM last Saturday and threatened to attack Mr. Faibille over comments that they considered offensive.
Ayariga had called into a live radio programme on which Faibille was a discussant and demanded that the lawyer retract of comments suggesting that the candidate was an NDC mole in the PNC. He threatened to send supporters to invade the station and teach Faibille a lesson if he didn't retract the comments, but Faibille refused to be intimidated.
Minutes later, young muscular men calling for Faibille’s blood besieged the station. Egbert later told Joy News that he felt compelled to report Saturday’s incident to the Adabraka Police even though he had other legal options available to him because of the impunity with which the surrogates of the PNC leader acted.
He was holed up in the Citi FM studios and it took the intervention of a reinforced police team from Adabraka and Accra Central to avert an aggravated violent attack on him.
He said he would resort to other legal avenues if the police fail to bring to justice the perpetrators of the attempt on his life.
Accra Regional Police PRO DSP Freeman Tetteh said the police had opened investigations into the incident, adding that Ayariga and other key players in the incident would be invited for questioning.
