A government Energy Policy Advisor, Isaac Sam has outlined some measures being implemented by the government to restore the regular supply of energy in the country.
These include a 110 megawatt emergency power supply which will come on stream by March 2, this year, discussions with Nigeria for it to take up the supply to Benin for the country to get back its 60 megawatts of power, Cote d’ivore being asked to increase the exportation of power to Ghana and discussions with some mining companies in the country to use their stand-by generators to free some power for public use.
Mr Sam said this in response to a question on the government’s intervention to meet a shortfall of a 400 megawatt deficit in the supply of energy in the country at a forum on the Kpone Independent Power Project in Accra.
He said all the measures were to ensure regular power supply for the country and emphasized the need for the private sector to participate in the energy sector to ensure its sustained generation and supply for development.
On the future of energy supply and distribution, Mr Sam said Ghana with its capacity, skills and institutional knowledge in power generation and supply stood a better chance of having a bright future in the energy sector.
