David Silva and Vincent Kompany both failed to make the Manchester City starting XI for Saturday’s early kick-off against Tottenham, with Joe Hart dropping to the bench.
Key playmaker Silva was absent from the matchday squad entirely due to a calf problem while captain Kompany had to make do with a place on the bench despite suggestions that he had been passed fit.
Another surprise saw first-choice keeper Hart fail to start a Premier League game for the first since since New Year’s Day, with Willy Caballero coming in for City.
Tottenham were much changed from their Capital One Cup defeat to Arsenal in midweek but Mauricio Pochettino only made change from last weekend’s Premier League win over Crystal Palace as Nacer Chadli made way for Christian Eriksen.

MAN CITY: Caballero, Sagna, Demichelis, Otamendi, Kolarov, Fernando, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Sterling, Toure, Aguero. Subs: Hart, Kompany, Zabaleta, Nasri, Navas, Roberts, Barker
