Ghanaian entrepreneurs in the construction industry have been enjoined to employ professionals with the requisite competence to manage their enterprises.
Chief Executive Officer of Eximguaranty Company, Felicity Acquah, says most construction firms are collapsing because their owners fail to engage people with the right technical knowledge to manage affairs.
According to her, inadequate record keeping and poor financial management are the bane of the sector’s growth.
She was addressing a training workshop for road and building contractors in the Ashanti and the Bono Ahafo regions.
Participants received training in business planning, marketing and operational management as well as financial planning.
Mrs. Acquah tells Luv FM the workshop is aimed at supporting the contractors to enhance their operations.
The Eximguaranty Company opened a regional office in Kumasi last year to serve the northern sector of the country and over the period the company has advanced credit to over a hundred small businesses.
Mrs. Acquah says the company is interested in building the capacity of new business start-ups to enable them access loans for growth.
