An explosion at the Tema power transmission plant at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) last night left a significant part of the country without electricity.
The blackouts affected Takoradi, Kumasi, the North, parts of Accra and Tema.
Officials say they have managed to restore power to many of the affected areas but will need time to fully rectify the problem.
Assistant Public Relations Officer at GRIDCO, Joanna Tetteh, could not tell when power would be restored to all areas but said engineers are working round the clock to rectify the situation.
