There is looming health threat in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region as rehabilitation of a liquid waste treatment plant is forcing waste contractors to discharge human waste into open trenches.
The sludge is flowing directly into water bodies like Oda, which serve as a source of drinking water for some communities within the catchment of the city’s landfill site at Oti.
The City authorities say the solution to the problem lies in completion of a $755,000 faecal sludge treatment plant rehabilitation project.
