The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has expressed her deep sorrow at the passing of renowned Ghanaian technologist and entrepreneur, Herman Chinery-Hesse.
Mr Chinery-Hesse died on Monday, September 16, 2024, reportedly from a cardiac arrest.
In a moving gesture, she signed the book of condolence opened in his memory, paying tribute to his contributions to the country’s technological advancements.
Herman Chinery-Hesse, often referred to as the "Bill Gates of Africa," was a pioneering figure in the African tech industry.
He founded theSOFTtribe in 1991, which became Ghana’s oldest and largest software company.
Under his visionary leadership, theSOFTtribe spearheaded innovative solutions that transformed various industries in Ghana, playing a key role in the country’s digital advancement.
In her message of condolence, the First Lady wrote, "You have gone too soon, unbelievable. May God grant you eternal rest. Lots of love." Her words reflected the profound loss felt by many who admired Chinery-Hesse's groundbreaking work and inspiring legacy.
His passing has left a void in the Ghanaian tech community, with numerous tributes pouring in from across the nation and beyond.
Known for his vision of empowering Africans through technology, Chinery-Hesse's work and influence will continue to inspire future generations.
