The district chief executive for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Mumuni Isaac Dramani has observed that the major threats to the security of the district are flooding and rainstorm, adding the district is currently confronted with two major disasters as a result of flooding. He made the statement at second ordinary meeting of the assembly at Sawla.Hon. Dramani said the Yipaala dam has overflowed its bank causing lots of damages to nearby roads and posing serious threats to motorist of the main Sawla-Wa road. The Sawla-Tuna-Kalba DCE said the Tuna-Kalba road has also been affected."The filling materials of the culverts across the Naafa River have been completely washed away cutting the road into two and rendering the road impassable by both motorist and pedestrians. Pedestrians have to swim or swan across to either side of the river," he noted.Hon. Dramani therefore appealed to the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) to quickly come to their aid to save the situation. In order to avoid the difficulties the physically challenged go through in assessing the 2% common fund allocation, the Government directed the creation of fund which the 2% share would be lodged into.He announced to the assembly that an account has been opened for the fund and an amount of GHC27,700 have been lodged in as part of the fund.To ensure proper management of the fund to benefit all physically challenged persons, the DCE said the executive committee of the assembly proposed six thematic areas for the utilization of the fund which includes Heath, Education, Income Generating Activities and Social Support. He also hinted of the need to have an additional Senior High school to enable their wards who completed Junior High Schools to get placement in the school.Hon. Dramani said the assembly has been fortunate to be given several projects under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND). Some have been completed and others at various stages of completion, he added. He disclosed that the Assembly through the GETFund will be constructing a six-unit classroom block at Tuna-Baali, Nakpala and Gbalyiri primary schools.
