Traditional leaders of Ga-Odumase, a suburb of Accra have blamed the inability to develop their communities on fear of being assassinated by residents.
Speaking to Joy News' Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah, chief of the community Nii Acquah II said several attempts to embark on developmental projects in the community have been met with death threats from some residents of the community.
“When there is any development going on, some of them develop the attitude of bringing the project to a halt”.
The community has about 2,000 residents with many of its buildings put up on water ways with deplorable roads.
Arable land used in farming has been sold out leaving farmers in the community with no source of livelihood.
According to NIi Acquah, attempts made by the traditional leaders to develop the community have been met with plots to kill them.
“There was a time some of them poisoned an alcoholic beverage and brought it to the Chief's palace, five people took it and [they] died”.
This he says, has prevented them from further pursuing any developmental projects in the community.
But some residents in response said their leaders are just making excuses adding that, the youth are always ready to contribute to any developmental project in the community.
