The Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) has announced that it would organize a special amateur boxing contest on January 1, 2007 at the Prisons Canteen in Accra.
The contest is aimed at selecting boxers who will form the core of the regional team.
According to a statement from the association, bouts for the contest would be in seven weight categories.
In the flyweight division, Annan Attoh of the Attoh Quarshie Gym will battle with Sulley Mathias of the Square Deal Club, whilst Oblitey Commey also from the Square Deal Club and Ekow Wilson of the Black Panthers Gym battle each other in the bantamweight division.
Fit Square’s Nii Armah Quaye will fight Joshua Barnor of the Panix Gym with Raymond Commey of the Square Deal and Nii Ofoli Tetteh of the Fit Square sorting things out in the featherweight class.
Nayin Laryea of the Attoh Quarshie Gym and Azumah Mohammed will battle each other in a lightweight contest, whilst Emmanuel Quarshie of Attoh Quarshie Gym and Afutu Tagoe of the Black Panthers Gym settle their scores in the welterweight division.
In the light heavyweight division, Samuel Danso of the Wisdom Gym will have to do extra work to overcome Mugano Kubanu of Fit Sqaure Gym, whilst Samuel Kojoga also of the Fit Square Gym contends with Sampson Kooku of the Akotoku Gym in the heavyweight division.
Weigh in of boxers will come off on the same day and venue.
The contest comes days after the association’s Champion of Champions tourney, which was a forerunner in the regional team selection process.
