The Football Association has appointed a renowned Ghanaian sports psychologist to assist in the preparation of players of the Black Stars prior to matches.
Patrick Ofori, a UK based psychologist, has over 3 years of professional experience and holds a PHD in Applied Sports Psychology.
He worked with Asante Kotoko in last season’s premier league in the same portfolio. In 2009 he was awarded Commonwealth Scholarship for his PhD at Aberystwyth University.
Ghana FA president Kwasi Nyantakyi who is currently with the Black Stars team in Kenya as they prepare for the second leg qualifier of the 2013 Nations cup against Malawi explains the motive behind hiring the sports psychologist.
“This appointment is against the background that we have realized some problems which appeared to be psychological problems”.
“We have realized that our team doesn’t do well in away matches as compare with our performances home and the problem is more pronounced during friendly matches and we hope to change this trend must change”.
“So we thought that issues of superstition and other thoughts that affected the team could be settled or resolved through the appointment of a sports psychologist”.
