The Ghana men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams held an intensive training session at Laboma Beach on Tuesday, June 17, as they concluded their final preparations for the Africa Beach Volleyball Championship qualifiers in Morocco.

The tournament, scheduled from June 22 to 30, 2025, also serves as a qualifier for the World Championship to be held in Australia this August.

President of the Ghana Volleyball Federation, George Tetteh, hailed the team's preparations as the best he has seen in years and expressed full confidence in their ability to qualify.

“So far, this is the best I’ve seen in many years,” he said. “Most of our players are now competing internationally. Just last week, some of them topped a major tournament in Rwanda. I have no doubt they can secure qualification in Morocco and go on to Australia.”

Tetteh added that the goal is to finish first and he believes the current squad has what it takes to achieve that.

Chairman of the Beach Commission, Bawa Fusseini, also acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which he says is vital to the team's campaign.

“We met with the Minister, and they assured us of their full support,” he said. “We’re also engaging with corporate bodies, and qualifying in Morocco will help strengthen our case for sponsorship.”

Men’s team head coach, Seidu Ajanako, shared insights into the team’s comprehensive training program, which included strength and conditioning, technical drills in defense, attack, setting, and serving.

“The players have been physically, mentally, and psychologically prepared,” Ajanako stated. “We’ve covered every aspect of the game, and we’re confident we can compete strongly in Morocco and qualify for the World Championship in Australia.”

Juliana Otcherewaa Aryee, member of Ghana's women's volleyball team, acknowledges that opponents like Egypt, Nigeria, and Mozambique are formidable, but vows to put up a strong fight.

“Egypt is the on leading in Africa. So Egypt, Nigeria and Mozambique, so is not going to be easy at all but we are going to fight hard and bring the Medal home.”

She added that, “we are mentally prepared because the training the coaches have given us, has psyched us and we are ready to go and bring the medal to Ghana.”

Acting captain of the men’s team, Kelvin Caboo, praised the leadership of the current volleyball management and expressed optimism about the sport’s future in Ghana.

“With the kind of leadership we have now, the President and the board, I see a huge impact in the Volleyball team because they are doing a good work he said.
“Even the young players are improving fast. In the next five years, I believe Ghana will be at the top of African volleyball.”
