Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Senior Presidential Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, has described the revival of Ghana’s national airline as essential to unlocking the country’s economic and strategic potential.
In her remarks following the establishment of a 10-member task force to operationalise the project, she stated, “Ghana deserves an airline that reflects our ambition, self-reliance and readiness to lead.”
The idea of a national airline has gained renewed momentum under President Mahama’s second coming, with a focus not only on connectivity but on job creation, technology transfer and economic diversification.
“The absence of a reliable national carrier has limited Ghana’s ability to maximise its full potential in regional and global aviation,” Ms Bawah Mogtari said. “Now is the time to change that.”
She emphasised that the success of the new airline would depend on good governance and professional management.
“A well-governed national airline will serve as a symbol of national pride and economic resilience,” she noted.
“But it must be driven by efficiency, innovation and the highest standards of service.” The proposed model is expected to be commercially viable, with room for strategic partnerships.
Ms Bawah Mogtari also highlighted the broader benefits of the project, from tourism and trade to skills development.
“Direct connections between Accra and major global destinations will boost business travel and tourism.
The ripple effects on hospitality, logistics, and aviation maintenance will be far-reaching,” she explained. Ghana’s young population, she added, stands to gain significantly from the jobs and training opportunities that will emerge.
In closing, she reiterated the Mahama administration’s resolve to see the airline take off.
“This is a chance to write a new chapter in Ghana’s aviation history—one that puts discipline, vision and political will at the forefront,” Ms Bawah Mogtari said. “We are not just talking about national pride; we are talking about a sustainable future for Ghana’s economy.”
