The Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei has described the purported memorandum on an alleged GH¢70,000 payment as an attempt to create divisions within the Minority caucus.

According to her, the document, which she has denied authoring, is intended to undermine the unity of the caucus and create divisions within its leadership.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story on Friday, September 4, Madam Appiagyei was asked who she suspected could be behind the document if she was not its author.

“That is something I can really not fathom. But I suspect that anybody at all can make it.

“It’s an attempt to break the caucus. That's how I see it. But we are united as a caucus and united behind a leader,” she said.

Madam Appiagyei maintained that she did not write, authorise or circulate any document concerning the alleged payment.

“I have not written nor authorized nor circulated any document to anybody on this particular issue. It is a fabricated one, and I look at it as an attempt to break our caucus,” she stated.

She said investigations were ongoing to establish the source of the purported memorandum, although she could not identify who may have produced it.

“Unfortunately, we are still investigating, but I cannot tell you exactly where it's coming from,” she said.

The Deputy Minority Leader suggested that the document may have been created by someone familiar with the positions held by members of the Minority caucus on the matter.

“But if I listen to you well, you have laid a solid background from time immemorial to this particular issue, and somebody must have had the opportunity to look at this issue and then come up with this because of our stands,” she added.

Her comments come amid controversy surrounding claims of an alleged GH¢70,000 payment linked to the recent vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees by Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has since commenced preliminary investigations into the matter, including the authenticity of the purported memorandum and the source and purpose of the alleged funds.
