The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) has donated two tricycles worth thousands of cedis to the Ayawaso East Municipality in Accra to help tackle sanitation challenges in the area.
Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, Municipal Chief Executive of Ayawaso East, expressed gratitude to the GIA, noting that the tricycles will support the municipality’s efforts to keep frontages and drainage systems clean.
He added that the Assembly is already engaged in initiatives such as stakeholder consultations, clean-up exercises, and public education to improve sanitation and reduce health risks.
Accra continues to face major waste management difficulties, worsened by rapid urbanisation, population growth, and inadequate infrastructure—factors that have led to indiscriminate dumping, littering, and pollution.

The donation formed part of the GIA’s corporate social responsibility activities to mark the 2025 Insurance Awareness Month Celebrations.
Speaking at the presentation, Mrs Mercy Naa Koshie Boampong, GIA Board Member and CEO of Serene Insurance Company Ltd., highlighted the importance of public education on insurance rights and responsibilities.
She stressed that many disputes in claims handling stem from limited knowledge rather than mistrust. “This is why the GIA has dedicated an entire month to educating the public on real insurance issues,” she said.
The initiative, she explained, aims to deepen understanding, enhance trust, and improve the relationship between insurers and the public while supporting local communities.
