Ghana is on the list of countries that Al-Qaeeda terrorist group is targeting to launch fresh attacks on, international intelligence agencies have intercepted.
The intelligence reports also named Nigeria as one of the countries targeted by the notorious terrorist organization. Nigeria, which has been battling its own notorious Islamic sect, Boko Haram is reportedly not taking the threat any lightly.
The threat by Al-Qaeeda has reportedly led to heavy security reinforcement at the Kotoka International Airport.
Security expert, Emmanuel K. Bombande, Executive Secretary of the West Africa Network for Peace (WANEP)told Joy News' Jefferson Sackey that the threat must be given all the necessary attention it requires.
According to Mr. Bombande, not many are happy with Ghana's democratic credentials and would go several length to derail the progress it has made.
More so, he said it could not be a coincidence that such threats are emerging as Ghana goes to the polls in a very crucial election.
Mr. Bombande said the security agencies must beef up their presence in some potential areas such as airports where the terrorists could target.
He called on Ghanaians to cooperate with the security agencies as this threat meant rigorous security checks would have to taken particularly on travelers.
The security expert also advised that event organizers must ensure that patrons are well screened before entering enclosed areas.
He added that the threat could be a ploy by the terrorist organization to make Ghanaians anxious, adding that Ghanaians must stay united as anything otherwise could be exploited by the terrorist organization.
Mr. Bombannde called on every Ghanaian to report suspicious characters to the security agencies for actions to be taken.
He however maintained Ghanaians must keep calm in these trying moments.
